Colin Cowherd’s Stock Up, Stock Down

By Fireman Mike May 18, 2009

Stock Up

strasburgStephen Strasburg - The San Diego St righthander is guaranteed to be the number one pick unless the Nationals hire Isaiah Thomas as their GM. And he’s got the stats to validate his hype; 12-0, 1.34 ERA, 2 CG Shutouts, 174 Ks in 94 innings with 18 walks and an opponent’s batting average of .167. When you have a 10-1 strikeout-to-walk with a 102MPH fastball, you have the right to ask for $50 million out of college. He probably won’t get over $20 million but that aint bad for your first job out of college.

Denver Nuggets - This team went from a group of soft, one-on-one players to a tough team with one move in the early season. A few months after Chauncey Billups arrived, it seemed like the switch went off for athletic stud Carmelo Anthony, JR Smith and Chris Anderson. Mix that with Kenyon Martin’s wild toughness and George Karl’s even tempered mannerisms and you might have the makings of a championship squad.

dawsonChad Dawson - You probably haven’t heard his name but the Light Heavyweight from New Haven, CT is 28-0 and repeated his dominating performance against Antonio Tarver. Instead of giving the fans what they want to see, the brains behind boxing are likely to match him up against Glen Johnson in his next fight, a boxer he has already pounded the hell out of. Can someone smart please take this damn sport over!

Stock Down

james-harrison21James Harrison - When a guy says something like, “If he (Barrack Obama) really wants to see the Steelers, he can invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl.” Because having middle of the pack football teams in for a visit is more important than meeting with world leaders and his economic brain-trust. I guess only time will tell if this guy is that big of an idiot, or if he has had a temporary loss of common sense.

Jennifer Aniston - First she won’t talk to long time friend Courtney Cox because she caught Cox hanging out with ex-husband Brad Pitt and having a great time. Then her movie, Management, totally flopped at the box office, making her even more irrelevant than we originally thought.

Arizona D-Backs - They fired Bob Melvin because he was underachieving with a young team that was supposed to take a step forward this season. They hire 35 year-old AJ Hinch to run the show with no prior experience and he promptly loses 6 of his first 8 games. Loaded with stars and a solid pitching staff, heads will surely roll at season’s end if they keep up their losing ways.
