The Real Top Ten Places To Live In America
By
Every year US News & World Report comes out with an issue that includes the Ten Ten Places To Live In America. The problem is, the magazine bases their opinion on criteria that is irrelevant when you start talking about the nicest places in America to enjoy life and raise a family. They use the local economy, cost of living and how much fun stuff there is to do in the given city to put together their list. Let me be the first to tell you, this is bogus.
The nicest place to live, according to US New & World Report, is Albuquerque, New Mexico. How the hell can they confidently put this on the rack? I have nothing against Albuquerque, but the nicest place to live in America, give me a break. You don’t see billionaires lining up at the local New Mexico real estate agent to find homes in Albuquerque. It isn’t even the nicest place to live in New Mexico. Sante Fe is, I’ve been there a bunch of times.
Once you start taking economy and cost of living into the equation, you no longer include the nicest places to actually live. You are telling people where they can find the best value. Even then, this publication is far off when giving people advice on where to relocate.
Let me present to you the Ten Best Places To Live In America, based on where people who can actually live wherever they want choose to reside.
- On the beach in Maui
- La Jolla, California
- Malibu
- Captiva Island, Florida
- Nantucket for five months out of the year
- Park Avenue, New York City
- Highland Park, outside of Dallas
- Medina in Seattle
- Paradise Valley in Phoenix
People who have the means to live wherever they want actually choose to live in these areas. When you become rich and are able to move your family to a spot that is comfortable and gives you all the pleasures in life, you don’t choose Albuquerque. Once Bill Gates chooses to live in New Mexico, I’ll reevaluate and tell you I’m wrong.

what’s wrong with Hawaii???
Colin, while some would debate the choices you made, the thought process is dead solid. Having been to Maui, Captiva, and Maui, I\’d probably agree with your other choices other than NYC. Great job as always.
