Not gonna lie, lots of e-mails and attention for that boxing match. In radio, that’s never a bad thing. I actually like them both of them. I’ve known Mike for years, known Simmons for about an hour, but he’s funny, passionate and pees in people’s cereal, love that kind of guy. He makes people uncomfortable. Simmons pisses off sportswriters, which I love. The thinnest skinned profession in America, yet they criticize for a living. Amazing.

Not really. All my friends are in politics, food, finance and real estate. I like lots of guys though. Doug Gottlieb, Trey Wingo and Herbstreit are my boys at ESPN. I have ties to lots of coaches and media thru the years, but I wouldn’t call us tight. You need to keep a distance or separation with people you cover. At least, that’s how I feel. I don’t have any enemies. At least I don’t hate anyone. That’s just a wasted emotion. Im sure some guys hate me though. A couple ESPN guys don’t appreciate my sense of humor. None I feel comfortable naming. Todd Wright, former ESPN radio overnight guys, bad mouthed me often. But he’s a weird dude and works overnights for a reason.
Who is the most overrated college football player? Please say Tim Tebow. Scott, Dallas
I actually think Tebow is a big time athlete and person. When he QB’s, they win. Good enough for me. Jimmy Clausen at Notre Dame is not nearly as ’special’ as advertised. He’s got a good arm, not great. He’s not overly athletic, he’s okay. He’s a back-up at USC. He’s a back-up at Texas. He’s a back-up at Florida or Oklahoma, yet he was labeled as the number one quarterback in America out of high school. Give me a break. That’s typical Notre Dame recruiting hype. Two years ago, he was on the internet for partying at ND. Half the students in the picture were bigger than him. Pathetic.
Are fans in Philly as bad as you make them out to be? Ethan, Berkeley
They’re worse. It’s a very blue collar city. People are angry for lots of reasons in Philly. The weather, traffic and they work really hard. San Diego fans are laid back because they have reason to be. Its 77 degrees, with the beach breeze and there’s not many factories, piers or lumberyards to work in. Larry Bowa, Dodgers coach, once told me, blue collar cities have angrier fans because of how hard they work all day, they need an outlet, to release the stress. It makes sense.
Jimmy Clausen’s numbers are better than those of Brady Quinn, Matt Stafford, Vince Young, Matt Leinhart and Carson Palmer at this point in their careers. He’ll prove you wrong next year Herd!
That’s pretty funny Zach until you learn that ND still suck with Clausen being the qb while the names you listed are qb’s who ACTUALLY WON ON THE COLLEGE LEVEL.

Let’s not start talking like Carson Palmer was anything “special” prior to his last season at USC. He had a great 2002 that sarted this whole thing for USC. Jimmy Clausen has 2 years left and will win plenty of games over those next two years and break all of Brady Quinn’s records.
I can run off a dozen better QBs than Clausen ….. He’d also be a back-up at BYU ….
I really want to see the kid behind Clausen play some. From what I saw of him in high school Dane Crist reminded me of Tim Tebow while he was in high school. I know that was high school but I’d like to see him get a chance and I’m not an ND fan.
