Answering The Critics, Minnesota’s Issues
ByRecently, KFAN radio in Minneapolis was ripping you for your support of ESPN over the Brett Farve story. Did you hear about it? Tom, Minneapolis
Sure. It happens a dozen times a year. I bag on some local meatballs, they fire back, I get free publicity, heavy e-mail volume and my ratings go up in that market (or, if nothing else, name recognition). I never mention them by name, I just refer to them as ‘chapstick and turbo prop’ or some FM sounding morning show. Yet, they will absolutely mention me by name fifty times over a week. The locals fall for it, every time. It’s like reeling the same fish in, a dozen times a year. In the last several weeks it’s worked in Lexington, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. It should be noted that I just had my best May ratings book EVER in ten years of radio. In all honesty, thank you guys for helping me achieve that.
Colin, What I want to know is this: if an inefficient red zone offense was the only major problem for the Vikings during Brad Childress’ 3 years as head coach, why would I want an old bag of bones like Brett Favre (who’s thrown 84 picks over the last 4 years) to be my quarterback? Chris, Minnesota
Because Farve is a major upgrade over your other two choices. Radio Icon Paul Harvey was old too, but he delivered until the end. Mike Wallace is old, but delivered into his 70′s. Farve is in his 30′s. Let’s not turn him into some shuffleboard geezer from Boca. The guy can still wing it with the best of them, when his soup bone is healthy.
Artie Lange was ripping you, for ripping him on Joe Buck LIVE. What’s up with that bro? Seth, Dover, DE
He rips for a living. That stuff doesn’t bother me at all. Artie is a funny guy, who just happens to be a mess of a human. You often get that with talented artists, actors and comedians. The rage has to come from somewhere. I thought he came off as a jerk on HBO and they have since banned him from HBO sports. NBC has also refused to book him. It will pass, like all controversies do. But again, Howard Stern, more than once, has had clips of us on his show. Is he putting clips of other sports shows on? Nope.
I am in a serious relationship with an alcoholic. She has gone to jail for 3 months, got a D.U.I, wrecked my car, been fired from 2 jobs and her hours are cut on her third job because she went into work
drunk, so I’m supporting both of us and paying her probation fees. She still thinks its “ok” to go out and have a drink. She won’t leave and won’t give me back my keys to my apartment and just lays around my house all day and won’t even feed the dog. What should I do? Jason, Atlanta
Read your e-mail out loud to anyone you trust. There’s only one answer. Get out NOW! You’re living with a self destructive person who will bring you down with her. She’s an addict, she’s selfish and she needs help. Find her some, and find yourself a new roommate before you go down the toilet with her bro.

Sup Herd? Listen to your show on a daily basis, dont know what I would do with out it. When you bash the local meatball or even use the term local meatball its makes me laugh so hard. Meatballs that cant keep your name out of there mouths need to realize they will never be half the sports talk host that you were. Your sports knowledge is out of this world. You forgot more then the average meatball knows, there just LOOSERS.
BREADMAN OUT!
Colin,
So, in your reply about the meatballs from Minnesota, are you now admitting that you said things just to get ratings? Did you not mean what you were saying? Were your comments about Pittsburgh and Lexington done just to get ratings also? I know you’re in the ratings business, but I’ve heard you say many times that you don’t ever say anything to be controversial. So which is it? Do you say what you mean or just try to “reel in the next fish”?
