NFL Team On The Rise, New York Sports In Need Of Repair
ByColin, do you have a team on the rise and a team on the decline in the NFL? Frank, Dublin, Ohio
I love the Atlanta Falcons, from owner to GM to quarterback to coach. All four grade out B+ or better. You only see that in the elite NFL teams. It’s such an advantage to any franchise to be able to build around a franchise quarterback for the next ten years. Everything just falls into place after that. The declining franchise is the Denver Broncos. They have no quarterback, a young coach who seems to have too big of an ego and could be over his head. Frankly, they’re a young team that doesn’t have great depth or any talent on defense. Mike Shanahan was probably the glue that held them together for the last several years. A head coach with a little bit of talent can do that in the NFL. Look what Bill Belichick did last season with Matt Cassel.
Why did St. Louis fans boo the president at the All Star game and could the media quit pretending St.
Louis has the classiest fans in sports? Rick, Wisconsin
Maybe it was a political move or maybe it’s simply because he wore a White Sox jacket instead of the customary home team jacket. I didn’t pay much attention. It’s hard to blame the new guy for our current economic situation. That’s like blaming Lindsey Lohan’s current sex partner for her bad reputation. Obama inherited a mess, like Lohan’s new guy is inheriting a few diseases.
You love the NBA, man! Are the Knicks ever going to climb out of this hole or will we be talking about the curse of Isiah ten years from now? Chad, Albany, New York
Not anytime soon Chad. They are falling behind further each day. Why would any star want to move to a city with increasing taxes (reportedly 57 percent for highest incomes in today’s NY POST) and a roster with minimal talent? Seriously, David Lee is your go-to guy. He’s the fifth best player, on every good team in the league. LeBron isn’t happening. He already carries one team, why start over? The Knicks are in a really bad situation right now and nobody is rushing o bail them out. They are trying to make chicken soup out of Curry chicken, and the result is about as ugly as what comes out the other end after eating that type of meal.
Is C.C.Sabathia worth the money? Is he really even an ace this year? Rob, Bayside, Brooklyn
Remember Mark, he’s being paid off previous years. So, for that reason alone he’s worth being paid like an ace. He’s definitely been the most reliable Yankee starter this season. The problem is, the team is only 9-10 when he starts. Meanwhile the Red Sox are 15-3 in the last 18 starts for Josh Beckett and Jon Lester. C.C. is good, not great, this year. Like always, guys come to the Yankees slightly past their prime and never live up to their star billing. It’s typical but then again, Sabathia started slow in Cleveland then turned it on and was unhittable in the second half. Time will tell whether the Yankees got their money’s worth out of Sabathia.

Denver has no talent, and yes they are going to be lousy this year. However, when will people acknowledge the fact that the reason why Denver has no talent is basically BECAUSE of Shanahan? He may have been the glue that kept the team at 8-8 with 5-11 talent, but I as one Broncos fan was really sick of watching Shanahan make the same personnel mistakes over and over for the past several seasons (signing big name bust after bust in free agency, not getting a talented running back in the draft, instead opting for undrafted rookies (or even worse, Maurice Clarett), firing and hiring defensive coordinators with completely different philosophies annually, reaching for players with character concerns, picking athletes who are not necessarily football players, etc.).
Give McDaniels a chance. Let’s give him a year or two to see if he can get good players to Denver so they can compete for a Super Bowl instead of being perpetual pretenders. He may have an ego, and he may be over his head, but I’d sure rather try something new and see if it works instead of the same old 8-8 or 9-7 season with annual beat downs by the leagues elite. Denver’s been eroding for years, and Shanahan wasn’t getting it done. Move on!
Colin, when are you guys going to post more questions and answers with hot friend Ann? She’s far more entertaining then you.
As for the New York Knicks it’s even worse than most people realize! A lot of people don’t know that despite having what will most certainly be a lottery team this year, the Knicks won’t have a lottery pick! Why? It’s because they traded an unrestricted draft pick to the Utah Jazz! Yep, if the Knicks get the #1 pick, they have to give it to the Jazz! Why would anyone ever trade for an unrestricted draft pick? Awful management.
You are correct about Obama “inheriting a mess”, but don’t forget he was a member of Congress that oversaw that mess. Additionally, he’s like Lohan’s new boyfriend when handling Lindsay… Instead of correcting her faults, he’s encouraging them further… He’s maxing out a credit card to keep her bad behavior up, much like Obama is by continuing a $1 trillion deficit of Bush’s.
Seriously, do you trust Obama to spend future earnings (which will drive tax rates up, as you allude to in your NY Knicks analysis) in attempts to roll the dice to fix the prior government’s problems, most of which were because they spent too much money too?
The Congressional Budget Office called the government’s spending rate “unsustainable” and they have ripped Obama’s healthcare plan, repeatedly, for making things much worse. Thus, like Lohan’s new boyfriend, instead of giving her emotional support not to drink heavily again, he’s buying more drinks for her on credit.
Can’t believe I’m using Lindsay Lohan, also, to explain my point.
Seriously, is there anything worse than tuning in to hear Colin and Erik Kusselius is on? Wow, ESPN, way to ruin people’s Fridays. That guy is awful.
Hope you can translate. I have been lobby for a position with your staffs for a some time now. When are you can give me an opportunity at writing MMA article writings.
Good day sir! Seriously I am an MMA insider. I have only one goal, to work with the top sports talk personality in the industry. I have the drive and ability to bring you fresh perspective relating to Mixed Martial Arts. I am very knowledgeable in many other sports as well, but I must start with a niche and then possibly build from there. Again, good day sir. Keep making all of us laugh and do what you do brother!
I think Kussilias (probably spelled that wrong but am not interested in investing time to find out the proper spelling), is definitely talented. My issue with him has everything to do with his approach. It appears that he is trying too hard to hold his contrariety stance. He especially stands firmly on the other side of the tracks when it is something that Colin clearly offers his opinion about.
Mike Vick did his time. I am not sure if many of you know that Vick took the wrap for all of his friends when in most cases their is a “posse” in place in some instances to take the fall for their more famous member. In addition another point that I have not heard anybody bring to the surface is that PIT BULLS are born and breed to fight, attack and kill. These are not Golden Retrievers or Labs. There are several states that have outlawed the Pit Bull Species all together, and when and if they find one, they immediately terminate it. I get it that he lied to the feds and that was a mess. However horse racing is a sport that slaughters their prize winning animals as soon as they determine they do not make money. What Vick did was not right, but I believe people need to move on and realize he did his time and that Pit Bulls are not your average house pet or even wild animal for that matter. They kill and attack, it is in their DNA. I say for everybody that wants to bash Vick, ask them if they want a Pit Bull for a pet, especially if they have kids.
I know you like Matt Stafford from your radio show. But do you think with the new talent they have brought in and the “Marinelli crew” they took out will actually amount to 5 wins? I know you are thinking above the 4 1/2 games for the year, but look at the start of their schedule. Doesn’t look good. But should get better towards the end of the year with the nfc west. Plus we are the Lions.
