College Football Preview: Big East

Big East Preview

‘Jersey Boys Ready To Whack The Competition’

1. Rutgers 12-0

Big Wins: Pittsburgh, Cincinnati     Over/Under Win Total: 8 OVER
Rutgers will be one of three teams to be undefeated toward the end of the season but won’t be close to the top of the BCS poll. If their defense can carry them for the first half of the season against their biggest threats (Cincy, schiano@Maryland, Pitt), the last six games of the season are winnable (Army, @UConn, South Florida, @Syracuse, @Louisville and West Virginia). Head coach Greg Schiano now recruits as good as anyone in the Big East. His roots in Florida have brought him some important players during his career at Rutgers and he has been able to keep in-state talent at home as well. His last few recruiting classes have produced good defensive depth and a great quarterback prospect in 6’6″, 240lb D.C. Jefferson but the key to their success in 2009 is clearly their weak schedule. The Scarlet Knights also return all five starters on the offensive line which will enable them to run the ball and protect an inexperienced QB. Look for the Scarlet Knights to make a run to the top of the polls, with the prize being a spanking at the hands of Mississippi in the Sugar Bowl.

2. Pittsburgh 10-2

Big Wins: Notre Dame, West Virginia      Big Loss: Rutgers     Win Total: 7.5 OVER
The Panthers are at a very pivotal point in the program’s resurgence to national power. If Pittsburgh can come back with a double-digit win total after a nine-win season in ’08, it will prove that Dave Wannstedt’s recruiting efforts have dwanbeen well worth the wait. While Pitt does have to replace leading rusher LeSean McCoy and get a better season from erratic QB Bill Stull, Wannstedt has put together 3 straight top 25 recruiting classes that should fill the void left by both. WR Jonathan Baldwin is the real deal on the outside and will be depended on to bail the Panthers out of third down trouble and produce more points in the red zone than he did last season. There seems to be at least two losses on the Pittsburgh schedule though, with big time challenges coming on the road against NC State and Rutgers and home battles against Notre Dame, South Florida, West Virginia and Cincinnati. Look for Pittsburgh to surprise people at some points this season and disappoint at others, in typical Big East fashion.

3. South Florida 8-4

QB Matt Grothe returns for his senior season and will desperately fight to keep the Bulls atop the Big East ranks. Grothe will go down as the most successful player in the program’s brief history and deservedly so. DE George Selvie is an selvieabsolute beast coming off the end and will look to get back to his All-American sophomore form when he recorded 14.5 sacks and put the USF program on the national map. Coach Jim Leavitt is the highest paid coach in the Big East and he needs to prove that he is starting to make a dent in the talent-rich state of Florida for high school studs. He has to coach up the rest of the team but Grothe and Selvie are the two best players in the conference on their respective sides of the ball. They will have their chance to mark their territory with games against Florida State and Miami this season. Leavitt would have to be pumped about a split, which we expect the Bulls to get.

4. Cincinnati 7-5

The Bearcats had a magical season in 2008 before losing to Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Coach Brian Kelly has pikeput together back-to-back double-digit win seasons and will be a main target of the next powerhouse program that fires their coach. Kelly returns QB Tony Pike, who had a breakout season in ’08. Pike has a great target in WR Mardy Gilyard, who has been grabbing preseason award recognition. The defense is going to need to replace ten starters, which will not be an easy task at all. The offense should be able to carry the load but the defense isn’t going to be able to respond against quality opponents like Rutgers, Oregon State, Pittsburgh and Illinois. If they win the games they are supposed to, Cincy will be making their fourth consecutive bowl appearance.

5. West Virginia 6-6

stewartThe Mountaineers are going to be one of the most disappointing teams in the country due to a multitude of changes and new names at big positions. The first season after a big-time coach leaves a BCS program is usually filled with motivational speeches and “we’ll show you” moments. The following year is usually spent trying to figure out how to recruit at the same level and replace the stars that were brought in by the former figurehead. Coach Bill Stewart is going to have to prove he can do both of these things. We don’t have the type of faith in Stewart that some of the publications do. QB Pat White masked a lot of holes in the offense last year and nobody can replace his productivity. Combine that with road games against Rutgers, Auburn, South Florida and Cincinnati and you have all the makings of a down year in Morgantown.

6. Connecticut 5-7

Coach Randy Edsall has become one of the best coaches in the country by getting the most out of his players, who come in lightly recruited and are underrated year after year. It wouldn’t surprise us to see UConn open people’s eyes jasperagain this season but all the signs point to tough season for the Huskies. Replacing the nation’s leading rusher, Donald Brown, won’t be easy but they do have a couple of solid backs in Andre Dixon and Jordan Todman who will carry the load. The bigger problem is replacing draft picks OT Will Beatty, CB Darius Butler and DE Cody Brown. A program like UConn doesn’t produce four top prospects every year but Edsall has been overachieving since the day he stepped in as UConn’s head coach. A late season game against Notre Dame may be the difference between hitting the recruiting trail early or practicing with his troops for six extra weeks for Edsall.

7. Louisville 3-9

It wasn’t long ago that Louisville was averaging over 10 wins a year. Now they are struggling to get back to .500 with a team that doesn’t look too promising. RB Victor Anderson might be their best chance at putting away games but the mwiliamsdefense has to show some type of intensity before that can happen. Another down year for Louisville.

8. Syracuse 2-10

You really can’t look at the Syracuse schedule and find an automatic win in the Big East. They can come in and upset any of the bottom tier teams, but they can’t be counted on to actually perform consistently at any point. Expect them to lose a lot of game against the spread too. They rely heavily on WR Mike Williams but if he can’t get anything going, the Orange are in trouble.

Comments

  1. Jeremy Dickens says:

    I think this makes a little more sense. 1)West Virginia 2)South Florida 3)Rutgers 4)Pittsburgh 5)Cincinnati 6)Louisville 7)UConn 8)Syracuse

    Why??
WVU- Noel Devine and Jarrett Brown and the surprise defensive group in the league
USF- Maybe the most talented team in the league with George Selvie and Matt Grothe but USF has to prove they can finish a season before they get picked to win the league.
Rutgers- Two many key players gone form the offense to be picked to win the league but a very favorable schedule to get more than 8 wins for Colin.
Pitt- The Panthers will lose 4 games alone on their QB play, but that defense will win them a few…much like the past 2 Brawls.
Cincinnati-Great defense last year…too bad they only return one starter. Still not sold on Pike either.

L’ville, UConn and ‘Cuse should have fun beating up on one another.

  2. dave h... says:

This laughable……ok so the brillinat Cowherd has Rutgers going 12-0 and winning the Big East……can see at least one hole in that theory…..they can not beat WVU and have not anytime recently…….I just love lack of true football knowledge this dolt has….Colin we all know you hate the BE and in the end no one here really cares………but man at least make us think you know what you are talking about. You say WVU is a 6-6 team because of a lack of proven QB yet Rutgers you project as a 12-0 team with a guy who has less game experience than Jarrett Brown – go figure….of course because I am a WVU alum you will look at this with as a typical stereotyped response from a couch burning hillbilly….but in the end this may have been the worst read I have seen to date by anyone…Rutgers 12-0 REALLY lmao………..I am not even going to fuel your hate by saying WVU will win BE – they have the talent to do so as do several teams in the conference……your rationale just does not add up…….and for the record recruiting at WVU is going great likely better than when Coach Rod was here……

  3. Big D says:

Right… WVU lost too much on the D and White is key. Hell of a player… transition year. Pitt has a solid team but crappy coach and QB. SFU just arent winners. Neither is UConn. RU lost QB and WRs. Lou will be better than people thing and Cuse is garbage. Cinn lost its defense.

My picks are either one of 2 …

    1 RU
    2 Pitt
    3 WVU
    4 Cinn
    5 SFU
    6 Lou
    7 UConn
    8 Cuse

    or

    1 Pitt
    2 RU
    3 WVU
    4 SFU
    5 Cinn
    6 Lou
    7 Uconn
    8 Cuse

  4. Flu says:

    @ Bid D …

WVU lost too much on defense this year? Well, there went any of your credibility. Go look at the returning D … then go ahead and delete your post.

WVU is the favorite in the BE this year as it always should be. WVU is the ONLY team in the BE to return both their offensive and defensive coordinators from the previous season. You would think Cowherd would know this since he seems to think “transitioning” is huge. Then again, Stew is going against the brains of Wanny and Schiano to compete for the BE title … oh wait.

Then again, you would also think Cowherd would know that WVU’s recruiting has only become better since RR left …

  5. WVUking1 says:

This is honestly the worst preseason prediction I’ve seen this year for the Big East. Cowherd, you’re an idiot.

  6. Jamie says:

This article is written based upon 90% opinion and 10% fact. I don’t know that WVU will win the conference, but they will be in the hunt. The team improved througout the season last year which is a sign of good coaching (we all know Stew had a gaff or two) and players getting a grasp on the offensive and defensive changes implemented by a new coaching staff. Stewart does have a lot to prove and I think he and his staff will be up to the task.

Colin, please read about Stew’s recruiting…please….before posting uninformed comments about it. It most definitely has improved since RichRod left town. Let there be no doubt about it!

Also, as stated above, how can you look at Rutger’s loss of their starting QB and 2 best WRs and think they are going 12-0? Unbelievable!!

The Mountaineers only glaring weaknesses are the young O-line (which may surprise many with the talent that is there) and the lack of great depth on the D-line. These are the big question marks and I know how important the work in the trenches is, so yes, these are very big question marks. These are the only worries I have about this team.

We have a senior QB with quite a bit of experience and success, excellent running back (plus lots of young talent), improved and more experienced receiving corp, exceptional group of linebackers (6 deep) and a very deep defensive backfield (7-8 deep).

Look for good things this year and great things in the Mountaineer future.

    Jamie

  7. Dave says:

This is seriously just flat out funny to read. When i first saw this i actually though that is was a Joke! I really have no clue why Rutgers is getting so much hype. They have no QB expierence and they lost their only two playmakers which were both WR. Also WVU 5! I mean come on, they got a senior QB who won games for them already and have the most explosive player in the big east back (Noel Devine). I question if you have ever watch a big east game before.

  8. Matt says:

Yes dummies Rutgers lost their starting QB, but they have one of the best O-lines inb the country which will help 5th year senior Dom Natale. Not to mention that they return a plethora of stud RB’s to run behind that great o-line. They already run the pro-style so running the ball, controlling the clock and good D will win them the Big East and will wreak havoc on the inexperienced d-line of cincy, the young o-line of WVU and the feeble fb mind of the Stach. Not to mention that our O-line owns Selvie and our D scheme has always given Grothe problems.

  9. Michael says:

In the end you are talking about the big east title, which is like as big of a deal as finding 20 bucks, its nice but it doesn\’t make a difference in the long run. A PAC-10, Big 12 and/or a SEC team will be playing the the BCS NC. So what I am saying in a nut shell is, the Big East is irrelevant in the whole scheme of the BSC, and I am not kidding I think the Mountain West is better than the Big East. Seriously.

  10. The Herd's Word says:

Big East fans, even you have to laugh at that first sentence! Good one Mike.

  11. Terry says:

Are you freak’n high or something?……WVU 6-6…..You have never played one down of football in your life!….Pat White is a big loss!…However he didnt win all 9 games last year…..The defense is a TOP 10 defense in the nation…..and how could you hvae RUTGERS going 12-0?….they have no QB…..No RB…..a 5-8 WR…..and a decent D!…….I alway hear people talking smack about you HERB…..HOW YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPORTS…HOW YOUR A JOKE…..BUT THIS IS A BIG WOW….E-MAIL ME AT THE END OF THE SEASON…..WVU will win the big east.!

  12. Joe says:

rutgers sucks and will finish .500 maybe 7-5. this whole conference is terrible, and they still wont compete

  13. Matt says:

    1. No Michaels first sentence wasnt funny since anyone who knows anything knows that the Big East is 3-1 in BCS bowls with wins over the SEC and Big-12 champs.

    2. Joe you suck and your an idiot if you think Rutgers will finish 7-5 with that schedule.

    3. WVU has no QB no O-Line and no D. Rutgers is returning its entire O-Line its RB’s and most of its D with big young bucks filling in the holes. Rutgers can very well go 12-0, and you are an idiot.

  14. The Herd's Word says:

We predicted your favorite team to go undefeated, have a sense of humor buddy.

  15. Joe says:

Cincinnati maryland pitt south florida and west virginia will all beat rutgers. because rutgers sucks. and anyone who thinks they even have the slightest chance at 12-0 this year should be put in a mental institution, 0% chance of that. they will be 7-5, end of story. texas state might even beat them, you know that really good team they scheduled.

  16. Charles says:

Yea Matt, we don’t have a QB.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REDfjagwdSk
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7Ij-7Qa6UM

He looked OK against your best team ever.

    We don’t have a D?

Linebacker Reed Williams is recovered from shoulder problems that forced him to miss all but two games in ’08. Tackle Scooter Berry and nose tackle Chris Neild are among six full-time starters who return. West Virginia was 11th in the nation in scoring defense last season, and the defense could be even better this season.

  17. AY says:

I personally like the prediction by Colin Cowherd. He is almost right on target. But as a Big East fan and supporter my whole life, I cannot see Rutgers going 12-0. I do not think they have that X-factor to go undefeated. WVU has owned them in the past, PITT is long overdue to beat Rutgers, and you never know about USF with the heart and dedication of QB Matt Grothe.

With this said, the biggest surprise of the Big East will be WVU. I am not saying they will win the conference, but they will certainly be better than 6-6. Too much tradition has developed in Morgantown. I look for the conference championship to come down to the Black Friday game in Morgantown against two top 20 teams. The final standings could look something like this.

    1) Pitt (They have figured out WVU’s offensive attack the past two seasons).
    2) Wvu (Surprise of the year. Brown and Devine are solid college ballplayers).
    3) Usf (Surprise wins to both Miami and Fsu get this team rolling).
    4) Rutgers (Solid team but an inexperienced QB will hurt).
    5)Cincy (The honeymoon is over).
    6)Connecticut
    7) Syracuse (The cuse pull off a couple upsets to give the doormat to Louisville).
    8) Louisville (What happened to the top 10 teams?)

  18. bigeast says:

    13-9.

  19. JJ Redick says:

I had no idea so many WVU fans had an internet connection!

  20. LMAO says:

Look at all these hillbillies getting out of bed with their sister and discovering the internets. Did yall rememba to brush ya teeth?

  21. doug says:

\"I personally like the prediction by Colin Cowherd. He is almost right on target. But as a Big East fan and supporter my whole life, I cannot see Rutgers going 12-0. I do not think they have that X-factor to go undefeated. WVU has owned them in the past, PITT is long overdue to beat Rutgers, and you never know about USF with the heart and dedication of QB Matt Grothe.\"

You are right about WVU, but in the same thought if WVU has owned Rutgers, then why not Rutgers over Pitt and USF. Pitt and USF is a combined 1-7 against Rutgers the last 4 years. As long as Wanny and Leavitt are walking the sidelines for the Bulls and Panthers Rutgers will have a very good chance of winning. These 2 are responsible for most of the losses for the Bulls and Panthers because of bonehead decisions and lack of team control like penalties by the bunches. Stewart at WVU had a brain lock moment against Colorado last year, but the talent of his team carried him the rest of the year. He had a learning curve to over come unlike the other two. Anyway, every team in the Big East has too many questions to answer to automatically be given the crown.

  22. Big john says:

This is another instance of networks catering to large markets or large fan bases. Sorry Rutgers, you’re simply in the large market area. Notre Dame is a great example. Every year, Notre Dame is a preseason top 25. We all know how overhyped they are, they lost to Syracuse last year. Rutgers has the big NYC market that is so attractive to networks and sports broadcasters. 12-0 is laughable, maybe a 9-3 season given Rutgers embarrassing OOC schedule. As for WVU, 6-6 is a terrible prediction. The best defense in the big east should bring them at least 8 or 9 wins, along with the best RB in the Big East Noel Devine. Pay attention Cowherd- you’re going to have to eat alot of crow at the end of the season.

  23. white says:

What he fails to mention is the starting QB at Rutgers will be a 5th year senior (Dom Natale) and not DC Jefferson. It’s possible Jefferson may start later in the season after getting experience in some FCS games earlier in the season, but an experienced QB will be the main starter. With the returning offensive line and the solid running game, the only thing that’s missing are receivers. And with the incoming talent Rutgers has with it’s latest recruiting class, don’t be surprised to see them come in and play at the position. The defense has just reloaded in place of the 4 graduated players and will be in very good position. I would say the most important game of the year in the Big East will be the first and last Rutgers games against the 2 teams that have always had their number…Cincy and WV. If RU can get thru Cincy, they may be off to a 11-0 start meaning if WV can keep only 1 loss in their BE loss column, that date in December will be yet another game to decide the Big East. Regardless, it looks like another crazy Big East season!

  24. Robbie says:

Well Rutgers has been playing college football longer than any other BCS team and has NEVER!!! won anything maybe Cowherd figures they are due. Does he actually investigate whats going on or just go on gutt feelings. Way off base here. Think WVU is the team to beat in the Big East. In College Football you have more than one coach. WVU’s coaching staff is top notch and they have been recruiting better than when RR was at WVU.

  25. LCD says:

what does it say about someone when they have to stoop to the same old cliche’s about west virginia in order to try to get a point across? sorry, in case you way more educated, with all your teeth americans haven’t noticed, pick a state from one coast to the other and there will be a region there that will be crawling with rednecks and hillbillys, and some are alot worse than west virginia. ALOT worse. not a big deal. moving on, i think wvu will have a tough time this year, maybe a game or two better than 6-6, but not much. rutgers will not go undefeated. and pitt always finds a way to blow it. can’t wait for the season. thanks.

  26. The Herd's Word says:

Dude, 42.8% of people in West Virginia are missing teeth (http://www.statemaster.com/graph/hea_ora_hea_los_of_nat_tee-health-oral-loss-natural-teet). We saw a stat in Maxim a few months back that said the average person in West Virginia is missing 6 teeth. Compare that to Connecticut (12.4%) California (13.7%) & New York (16.8%) and it become downright comical. Stereotypes don’t come out of the blue. They are stereotypes for a reason. Combine that stat with the fact that West Virginia has the highest obesity rate, 61.8%, (http://www.statemaster.com/graph/hea_ove_and_obe_rat-health-overweight-and-obesity-rate) and you’ve got yourself built in jokes. If you don’t want it to be funny anymore, change it. Until then, keep defending yourself from the obvious.

  27. Adam says:

Rugters will surely not finish the season at 12-0. They could not finish 12-0 in Conference USA. They have an inexperienced, and unproven quarterback, a young running back, and lost two of their starting WR\’s. The Big East championship will go through Morgantown if WVU can win a couple of tough road games. WVU was a couple of plays away from an 11-1 season, and with a year under his belt, Bill Stewart will likely improve. Jarret Brown has proven himself and Noel Devine coupled with Jock Sanders is one of the most dynamic backfields in the country. Pitt will find a way to lose easy games, like normal, but will finish near the top of the pack. USF will find a way to lose a couple of close games, and Cincy cannot perform to last years unexpected level of play. Come December, the Blue & Gold will hold their own destiny and get ready for another bowl win.

  28. Big john says:

    The Herd’s Word,

Since when did you need to be slim and have all your teeth to play football? Aside from that, what do these stereotypes have to do with your sorry prediction? Say whatever you want , since you’ve also reverted to name calling, but you’ll see by the end of the season, and trust me, I’ll be back to remind you- WVU will not be 6-6.
“Stereotypes don’t come out of the blue.” What an absurd statement. Statements like that lose jobs and peer respect. Nothing new for you, however.

  29. LCD says:

i live here. i know the statistics. hell, i probably know have the people that are the status quo. but, you proved my point again. what did any of that have to do with rutgers going undefeated and wvu going 6-6? i did not see anywhere in the article where it said anything about population statistics that was comparing weight, intelligence or the amount of the teeth one has or does not have. that was all i was pointing out. no denial here. again, i was born and raised here. i have seen the not-so-finest it has to offer. just was uncalled for.

  30. Joe says:

everyone in this forum seems to be bashing people because they are from west virginia. b/c they are from wv they cant be smart, right? well im from nj born and raised and i actually go to rutgers so i am used to hearing these ridiculous predictions every year since rutgers beat msu in the season opener some years back. but then they lost to new hampshire the next week, they beat louisville in their improbable season, and then lost to cincy in a blow out. last year, big expectations, they get dominated by fresno lose to navy and start 1-5. what im getting at is that rutgers will never live up to the hype. they are average at best and even this year with a cupcake schedule they will find a way to lose. the difference with this year and those other years is that they are horribly inexperienced this year especially offensively. they have no proven receiver threat aside from 2 foot tall tim brown and a qb with very very minimal game experience.

  31. The Herd's Word says:

Fellas, nobody is bashing West Virginia. When told that we revert to name calling, we simply said that they aren’t “names”, they’re facts. Now, because we think that your football program is going to have a down year, we hate West Virginia. If we said WVU was going to win the Big East, you would all be bragging about your team. We never even reverted to the toothless, overweight stuff on this website either. Find it and prove me wrong. Stereotypes, whether good or bad, DON’T come out of nowhere. What is so absurd about that?

  32. Big john says:

So every stereotype (gender, race, ethnicity) is supported by some truth? I know alot of people that would be angered by that statement. But, that’s besides the point. Pointing out facts to make fun of a state is still making fun of it, call it whatever you want.

  33. Steve says:

My God I am still laughing @ this prediction. Its no secret that virtually anyone could win the big east this yr based on lack of icon names from gradution but come on Rutgers @ 12-0. My dear friend it looks like you are due for a 30 day stint at Betty Ford. Ill give you credit for creating havoc amogst the Big East fan base but the reality is it is far fetched for any team to go undefeated in the big this year. Too many variables and every team has question marks or wholes. I personally see grid lock at the 8 to 9 win season for the upper echelon teams. WVU, Pitt, Rut, and USF could all win it and 6-6 for WVU is laughable until the sky really does fall. Based on their recruiting it does not appear to be the next Louisville. If Stew falls that team is loaded for anyone to come in and win a title. Stay off the crack pipe and do a little more homework before you drunk type again please.

  34. LCD says:

i have no problem with the wvu prediction, said that at the beginning. the article itself was fine. i think wvu will be better than 6-6, but only by a game or two, but i don’t think rutgers will go undefeated. and, i was not refering to the Herd when i first said anything about the stereotypes. just was making a point about what others had posted. i follow the herd almost religiously, and i agree with most of what colin says, and that is also what a good article does, it causes discussion and prevokes thought, just didn’t agree with a couple of the other postings, and then the tootless and obesity stats were thrown out there by the herd’s word. but, at the end of the day, it’s all fine and dandy. thanks for letting me share my opinions.

  35. WVU guy in NYC says:

    Colin,
Initially I was going to post about your inane Big East predictions, but after reading your retrograde comments about WV stereotypes, I’ve got to respond to them. Where to begin?

First, your false denials. In your July 27, 2009 3:27 pm post you wrote: “Fellas, nobody is bashing West Virginia. . . . We never even reverted to the toothless, overweight stuff on this website either. Find it and prove me wrong.” Well, it wasn’t too hard to find. Just look 5 posts up. In your 12:25 pm post you cited two sources reporting high rates of tooth loss among West Virginians, which you characterized as “downright comical.” Then you asserted that “West Virginia has the highest obesity rate,” — a subject that nobody had previously commented on in this chain of posts — from which you concluded that “you’ve got yourself built in jokes.” So in fact, Colin, you did “revert to the toothless, overweight stuff on this website.”

Second, your defense of stereotypes. You wrote “Stereotypes don’t come out of the blue. They are stereotypes for a reason. . . . If you don’t want it to be funny anymore, change it,” and “we simply said that [name-calling comments] aren’t ‘names’, they’re facts. . . . Stereotypes, whether good or bad, DON’T come out of nowhere. What is so absurd about that?” Colin, whether a stereotype is based on fact is not the issue. The point is that it is not acceptable to insult people for their maladies — whether real or imagined. Gay men have a higher HIV infection rate than the general population. Obese people suffer greater health problems. The African American population has a lower rate of education than whites. Are these facts “downright comical” or the basis for “built in jokes”? I don’t think so, but perhaps you do. Ridiculing people for facts such as these may not be “absurd,” but it is shameful.

Third, what you did not say. It’s only fair to point out a place’s favorable characteristics as well as it’s flaws. You could have mentioned WV’s low crime rate and low cost of living, both well-documented facts. But you didn’t.

I understand that your job involves titillation and the generation of controversy, but standards of decency apply to you as well as to all of us. I don’t know if you hate West Virginia or West Virginians, but you use hateful language towards them. And that’s a fact.

What did you really expect from this moron?

Rutgers had better go 12-0 and go a BCS Bowl. Schiano is entering his TENTH year. It is time to put up or shut up.

  41. Kev says:

    Joe is an idiot.
RU will win the Big East.

  42. SailingBull says:

tick tock tick tock… that’s the inevitable sound of the giant’s alarm clock here in Tampa. The only thing keeping USF from completing the last two seasons and dominating this conference was depth. With the last two recruiting classes jumping an average of over 40 places in the rankings… Well it’s only a matter of time.

  43. wretchedvoid says:

    09/07/2009
    Cincinnati 47
    Rutgers 15

This just proved, that Preseason Polls are CRAP. Much like this one. Good try Colin. LMAO!

  44. Brad says:

RU 12-0???Great pick Cowherd. Nice to see that it only took one game to show your true football knowledge. Cincy 47 – RU 15

  45. Brad says:

One more thing….I’m born and raised in WV. I have all my teeth and am by no means anywhere close to obese.

  46. The Herd's Word says:

Good for you, you make up the other 5% of the state. We’ll eat crow tomorrow and admit our mistake.

  47. The Herd's Word says:

Nice 13 point win against a D1-AA squad. If one Rutgers loss proves that much, what does a 13 point win against Liberty prove?

  48. The Herd's Word says:

We’re going to eat more crow than Lance Armstrong tomorrow. Stay tuned, we don’t run from our mistakes. We pay the bookie for them!!!

  49. DanG says:

    rutgers 12 and 0 … oh gawd

    oh it hurts

    can’t breath

    oxygen ! oxygen !

  50. LCD says:

sorry, just had to be one of the many to say i told you so. but hey, that’s what a good prediction/article does, it causes conversation. that’s better than being just a boring run of the mill homer caller. way to step out on a limb.
