Big East’s Top Ten NFL Prospects
By1. Arthur Jones 6′4″ 300lbs DT Syracuse Senior
Jones is one of the lone bright spots in an Orange program that has gone backwards in recent years. One of the most athletic tackles in the nation, Jones decided to stay close to home while attending college. Even though he loves his surroundings, he makes opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable in the pocket while running backs have to change their decision making due to plugged holes in the middle. He’s a lock for the first round. His ranking is even more impressive when you consider the lack of talent around him at The ‘Cuse.
2. George Selvie 6′5″ 245 DE South Florida Senior
Selvie is an explosive defensive end that isn’t limited to pass rushing duties at his position. He was the nation’s leader in tackles for a loss as a sophomore with 31.5, which was one short of the NCAA record. After a somewhat disappointing junior season, in which he faced constant double teams and teams game-planning to run the opposite way, Selvie returned for his senior season to prove his worth to NFL scouts. That’s bad news for the rest of the Big East, as a healthy and motivated Selvie will have a monster season.
3. Anthony Davis 6′6″ 325 OT Rutgers Junior
Davis was one of Greg Schiano’s biggest recruiting victories in Piscataway. Davis’ footwork and hands set him apart from the rest of the linemen in the Big East. He has the power and strength to run block well but also the athleticism to pass block with the best of them. Davis will be an important part of a Rutgers team that has an opportunity to go to a BCS bowl due to their line and schedule. Davis will go off the board in the 1st round whenever he decides to enter the NFL Draft.
4. Greg Romeus 6′5″ 265 DE Pittsburgh Junior
Beast! Romeus has transformed from a little known recruit into one of the most demoralizing defensive ends in the country. Considering his vast improvement over the last two seasons, coaches and scouts have to believe the best is still yet to come. After 15.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks last season, to go with 3 blocked kicks on special teams, Romeus was named to the Second Team All-Big East squad. Romeus won’t be second to anybody this season and don’t be surprised if he makes an appearance on an All-American team or two. Once the combine starts, everyone with know the kid from Coral Springs name.
5. Selvish Capers 6′5″ 298 OT West Virginia Senior
Capers was a big reason Pat White had so much success the last year and a half he was with the Mountaineers. Being able to block for such an elusive athlete, Capers stood out on film while scouts were watching White. His stock is rising rapidly and he should end up as a 1st rounder at the end of the day. Jarrett Brown will be thankful for Capers this season and an NFL team will be happy to add an athletic linemen to their roster.
.
6. Jonathon Baldwin 6′5″ 220 WR Pittsburgh Sophomore
Baldwin is as unknown as a 6′5″ 220lb wide receiver that runs a 4.5 and has great hands could possibly be. Julio Jones and AJ Green have stolen some of Baldwin’s shine but inside the Big East, Baldwin is one of the most feared offensive weapons in the league. He is the type of player that will rise at the combine and become a first rounder because he is such a rare breed. It would be an insult to say he’s a ‘poor man’s Julio Jones’ but at this point Baldwin has to look at Jones as someone to chase and become more like over the next few years. It should be a motivating factor for Baldwin up until Draft Day.
7. Noel Devine 5′8 180 RB West Virginia Junior
Devine is a world class athlete. He’ll never be the biggest man on the field but he will always be the most elusive player and biggest threat to break a game wide open in the Big East. He’s not the type of guy you can hand the ball off to 25 times a game but he can create 25 touches for himself easier than any player in the country. NFL scouts will look at it this way: 15 carries, 5 catches and 5 kick/punt returns a game. When the most elusive player touches the ball that many times, so easily, it makes your offense open right up. A creative NFL coordinator will have a field day with Devine at the next level.
8. Mardy Gilyard 6′1″ 190 WR Cincinnati Senior
Gilyard is the most underrated wide receiver in the country. He combines great hands with precise route running and a flair for the big third down catch. His quarterback, Tony Pike, will be improved which will reflect directly on Gilyard’s statistics. NFL teams might look at him as undersized but he is bigger than the league’s small slot receivers and a better route runner than a lot of the bigger ones. A good NFL franchise will focus on his strengths and make him a huge contributor in their offense.
9. Manny Abreu 6′3″ 245 LB Rutgers Sophomore
Abreu will be at the top of this list two years from now. He has great speed for his size and his ability to become a hybrid DE/LB will make NFL teams drool. One of the hardest hitters in the Big East, Abreu is a sideline to sideline playmaker who could fit it on any team in the country. He is not yet a player that you can build a defense around but don’t be surprised if he becomes one over the next two years under Greg Schiano.
10. Tony Pike 6′6″ 215 QB Cincinnati Senior
Right now, WVU’s Jarrett Brown is the higher rated QB on the Draft board but that will only last for the first few games of the season. Pike has great size and touch, but what separates him from Brown is his poise and control over the field. He sits in the pocket calmly and goes through his progressions, knowing he can look back to Mardy Gilyard at any given time. We realize players like South Florida DBs Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy are much more ready to handle the NFL game right now but we see Pike as a sleeper who could one day run an NFL offense very effectively.

MAYBE THE RAIDERS ARE ONTO SOMETHING. PREGAME OR HALFTIME ENTERTAINMENT WHERE SELECTED COACHES CAN BATTLE IT OUT FOR THE AUDIENCE. MAYBE BETS CAN BE PLACED. I WOULD DRAW THE LINE WITH, (I CAN’T RESIST SAYING IT) CERTAIN ACTIVITIES BEING PROHIBITED. FISTS ONLY, COME ON GUYS NO COCK FIGHTS
George Selvie is a man playing amongst boys. Im calling it right now, he will be a stud for 10 years in the NFL. He is the type of player that Bill Parcells will trade up to get or have him fall to him in the late 1st round. Guarantee he is a Dolphin next year. Good call for noticing him Colin, considering he comes from an under the radar school.
Vidal Hazelton named MVP for Cincy Bearcats Scout Team by Brian Kelly
Vidal Hazelton has been one of the MAIN reason why the Bearcats are ranked #3 in the country. He was recently named the MVP of the Bearcats Scout Team by Brian Kelly. He is the best receiver they have and will be a force in 2010. Many NFL scouts have him high on their boards.

According to BearCats Insider Publisher Dave Berk
http://cincinnati.scout.com/2/889839.html
“Vidal Hazelton: As many know now Hazelton is a star who must sit out this fall after his transfer from USC. If Hazelton stays healthy he’ll be a player NFL teams will be looking to draft after the 2010 season. He’s got a big body and is very smooth in his route running and pass catching ability. This is one of the best wide receivers I’ve had the chance to watch and Bearcat fans will love what they see next season.”
“Today’s afternoon practice was attended by a scout for the Seahawks who told Bearcat Insider there is a lot of talent on the field the NFL is looking at in Cincinnati. Mardy Gilyard and Tony Pike look to be two players eyes are on along with Vidal Hazelton the transfer out of USC. ”
Vidal will be one of the Bearcats main weapons for 2010. Because of Pete Carroll’s bias Vidal transferred to the Bearcats. This kid is a stud. He has proved it over and over.
According to Mike Farrell of ESPN/Rivals.com “Vidal was the best WR at the All American game who stared: Percy Harvin, Matthew Stafford, Tim Tebow and Chris “Bennie Wells (Vidal’s roomate).
According to USC teammates “He brought out the best in the USC players. The WRs at USC would beg Vidal not to talk trash to the USC LB (Ray and Cushing) but he would do it to see what everyone was made off. The WR’s coach at USC, John Morton, nicknamed him “BadAss”. Vidal is a NFL caliber WR no doubt. I see him a 1st round draft pick for 2011.
