Weekly Whatever – New Car Smell Edition

By August 21, 2009

No matter how young or old, how rich or poor, buying a new vehicle is energy sapping. Looking, test driving, comparing, negotiating, there has to be a better way. Maybe I can just hitchhike for the next couple years.

bradysackedFootball almost feels like it’s in my DNA. It’s hard to explain to someone who isn’t a fan, but I can feel football coming with the cooler mornings. Like Tom Brady, I just need somebody to hit me.

The most polarizing thing I said this week, on my radio show, had nothing to do with sports. I received over 500 e-mails within a half hour, after I complimented people in the medical profession. After months of the healthcare debate, I just felt it needed to be said. And that was …”our current system has flaws. But the standard of health care provided in America, is significantly better than other countries.’ Now, there is no question that American insurance companies are robbing customers blind, which is the real issue with healthcare. But Canada’s wonderful socialized medical program, it should be noted, is imploding.

USC fans don’t want to hear this but there is no way they are going undefeated this year. They are significantly less talented and unproven at quarterback. That combined with a much tougher schedule equals losses. Freshman Matt Barkely is good, but would he start today for the New York Jets? Nope. Last year’s Trojan QB is going to. Plus USC lost their top four linebackers to the NFL. You just can’t replace that at the college level.

hurricaneI love watching hurricanes on the weather channel. I just don’t want to watch one from my deck or patio.

SportsNation is doing well, for those who have asked. In the 18-35 demographic (young men, very coveted) it’s beating virtually every show on ESPN 2, from 6 am to 5 pm. That’s good news. My co-host Michele Beadle is a scream. Maybe the funniest women I’ve ever met. She’s totally down to earth and never afraid to voice an opinion. She’s a star in the making.

My top five newspapers in order: Wall Street Journal, New York Times……okay, there’s only two. And that sums up the erosion of the American newspaper.

I don’t understand who is around to watch it at 4 in the afternoon. Must be job guy. I’ve tried to catch it when it shows again (allegedly) later that night, however it only seems to replay occasionally. I guess its good, I’ll have to take your word on it Herd. As long as Schlereth isn’t on there. I never believe what he says. In fact, as I watch him, I don’t think he believes what he says. I don’t know what drives his opinion but it isn’t honest. I can see it in his eyes.
