Fireman Mike’s Terrific Two Conference Championship Bets

By January 24, 2010

Luckily for me, these two games are being played on Sunday. I’m been 0-4 the past two weeks on my Saturday picks but 4-0 when the water starts to boil. I’m sitting at 60-50-2 and this week we’ll wipe the slate clean and start giving out a free college or pro basketball pick every day along with our lead handicapper Big Al McMordie. Here we go…………….-Fireman Mike

Jets +8 @ Colts

The Jets have covered eight straight games as an underdog and have been playing that role to perfection over the past few weeks. Earlier this week an analyst figured if the Jets could take away four possessions from the Colts throughout the course of the game they would have a shot. And let’s remember here people, all we want is a shot for the Jets to win.

The Jets have enough on defense to make the Colts fight for everything they’ll earn which will eat up clock, as will their running game. That will be the key because the less we see Peyton Manning on the field today the more likely it is the Jets are in the ball game.

That said, if the Colts get an early lead it will be really tough for the Jets to come back and pull this one out.

Here’s how it’s going to break down – and as I said this to one of the guys Colin and I work out with at the gym this morning he almost started to cry because he loves the Colts giving the points:

apeterson4The Jets will be down 20-9 with about 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, with the game easily in hand. Sanchez and Co. will get the ball back on their own 35 yard line and turn in an 11 play, 65-yard drive to make the score 20-16 and welcome you in to Cover City through the back door.

Colts win 20-16 but the Jets are in the money.

Vikings +4 @ Saints

Adrian Peterson is going to have a HUGE day!
This isn’t going to be as high scoring a game as people may think. Sure, two of the most explosive offenses in the NFL meet up against one another but Brees and Favre will be cautious enough to drain the clock while it is in their hands in order to keep it out of the opposing quarterback’s hands.

The Saints kill their opponents through the air but they wear them down on the ground. They average well over 100 yards rushing per game and use it to set up their passing game. Once those gaps are filled by the mighty Vikings line, the Saints will be put it third and long situations in which the Vikings can rush three and drop eight into coverage.

Brett Favre’s lack of turnovers have been the biggest key to the Vikings success all season and with Adrian Peterson to hand the ball off to, it’s no surprise Favre is playing with a lot less pressure on his shoulders. This will continue as Peterson explodes for a playoff career high rushing day and brings Minnesota to the Super Bowl.

Minnesota wins this game straight up but take the points because they are free.

    Fireman Mike,

You said you were going to work with Al McMordie to give a pro or college basketball pick daily. What happened? I am wondering if you are doing this and I am not looking in the right spot on the website?

I think they actually do have a \"Football for Dummies\" book. Get him to explain it to you as you go. It could accumulate your knowledge and get Quality Time at the same time. Go through the whole season starting now. We just had the draft this weekend in the NFL and Spring Practice just ended in April for college football. So no better time to start keeping up with it like the present.
