Ocho A Go-Go
ByShortly after welcoming problem child Albert Haynesworth into the fold, the New England Patriots decide to take a shot on another outspoken playmaker. They sent two future draft choices to Cincinnati for wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, giving Tom Brady yet another weapon on the outside.
Even during Ochocinco’s darkest days with the Bengals, he could always be seen fraternizing with Patriots coach Bill Belichick when the two teams faced one another. Belichick always spoke fondly of the enigmatic wide receiver’s production and play-making ability, as well as his outgoing personality. Now it’s his job to harness that ability and help Ochocinco return to his days as a Pro Bowl player.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Pats took a flier on a disgruntled wide receiver with big time skills. Randy Moss enjoyed arguably the greatest season of any wide receiver in the history of football after landing in New England, who gave up only a 3rd round pick for his services. And it wouldn’t even be the first time Belichick took a disgruntled Bengal under his wing! RB Corey Dillon toted the rock for three seasons in New England before succumbing to age.
Part of the deal included the restructuring of Ochocinco’s contract, allowing his cap number to fit perfectly within New England’s system. What else is new?
